How to contact Venmo customer service

You can reach Venmo by phone or through its official chat / help centre. Have your account email or phone, any order or reference number, and a short description of the problem ready so support can help you faster.

Most people contact Venmo about 5 common issues — including sent money to the wrong person and payment pending or under review. Step-by-step fixes for each are below.

Have this ready before you contact Venmo

  • The email or phone on your wallet account
  • The transaction amount, date and recipient
  • The last 4 digits of the linked card (never the full number)

Common Venmo problems and how to fix them

Sent money to the wrong person

Ask the recipient to send it back with the 'Pay' button. If they won't, contact Venmo from Get Help → Chat With Us — payments to strangers usually can't be reversed.

Payment pending or under review

Some payments are held for a security review; you'll get an in-app notice. Don't pay twice — the original either completes or is returned.

Transfer to bank is delayed

Standard transfers take 1–3 business days; Instant Transfers usually arrive within 30 minutes. Check the bank account details under Settings → Payment Methods.

Account locked or limited

Complete any identity verification request in the app. If you can't log in, use 'Forgot password' or call the number above.

Phone number already registered

If your number is linked to an old account, call 855-812-4430 to have it released so you can sign up again.

Common Venmo scams to avoid

  • 'Accidental' payments from strangers who then ask you to send it back — it's often stolen money that gets reversed.
  • Fake Venmo support accounts on social media or in search ads offering to fix your account.
  • Texts saying you won a prize or need to pay a fee to receive money.
  • Sellers asking you to pay with 'Friends & Family' to skip fees — you lose purchase protection.
